Visa and Arrival

  • E-Arrival Card: Don’t forget to complete your E-arrival card online before arriving in Brunei.

Taxis

Dart

Brunei’s ride-sharing app is Dart (Uber and Grab are unavailable). Download the app for convenient rides. More information can be found on the website: https://www.dartbrunei.com/

Weather & Time

  • Climate: Expect mostly sunny weather with occasional showers. The wettest periods are October-January and May-July. Check Brunei Weather’s website.
  • Time Zone: Brunei Darussalam is GMT+8 (8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time).

Currency & Banking

  • Currency: Brunei uses the Brunei dollar, pegged to the Singapore dollar. Both currencies are accepted.
  • ATMs: ATMs are widely available in shopping centers and accept major cards (Visa Plus, Mastercard Cirrus).
  • Banks: Prominent banks include Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and Baiduri Bank (accepting Visa, Mastercard, Unionpay). Other international banks are also present.

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed public areas and workplaces.

Alcohol
Consumption is only allowed in private areas. Non-Muslim visitors aged 17+ can bring a limited amount of alcohol upon arrival. It is mandatory to declare these items to customs upon arrival. See the Royal Customs and Excise Department’s website.
Telecommunication
Most roaming phones work in Brunei. Major providers include Imagine, DST, and Progresif.
Operating Hours

Stores typically operate from 9:30 AM, with some cafes opening earlier.
Most businesses close on Fridays from 12 PM to 2 PM for Friday Prayer.

Electricity

Brunei uses a 240V supply voltage and 50Hz. The plug type is G (three rectangular pins in a triangular pattern). Bring an adapter if needed.

Personal Safety

Exercise caution with your belongings and surroundings, especially at night.

The capital has a major government hospital (Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha, +673 222 2366) and private hospitals (Gleneagles Hospital, +673 261 1883; Jerudong Park Medical Centre, +673 261 1433).
